(March 8 – April 1, 2010). A variety of local artists have contributed works of art done by social workers or works that carry a social work/social justice theme for a special showing at the University of Portland Buckley Center Art Gallery. This art exhibit is sponsored by the University of Portland Dorothy Day Social Work Program in collaboration with the Oregon chapter of the National Association of Social Workers (NASW) as part of the NASW Social Work Reinvestment Initiative (SWRI). The purpose of SWRI is to promote the profession of social work. This exhibit is intended to showcase the art of social work in addressing the issues of our times, the pain and suffering of the most vulnerable in society as well as the joy of contemplation and fulfillment.
This exhibit features art by Moshoula Capous, Sabrina Harris, Giles Bettison, Steven Brudie, Catherine Fixe and Shemaya Blaue. Art being displayed includes various forms and media including art inspired by work in Hospice and photographs taken by women in the sex industry.
